Eligibility and Application
SOAR Scholar Eligibility
To be eligible for the SOAR program, students must be Sociology majors who have received a B or better in at least one required Sociology research course (Statistics-SOCI 3307, Data Analysis-SOCI 3318, Quantitative Research-SOCI 4308, and/or Qualitative Research-SOCI 4309). Four students will be selected for the cohort. Students must be able to commit to 5 hours of work per week during the Fall and/or Spring semesters. A small office space, necessary resources, and a stipend of $1,000 per semester will be provided to each student. Students will conduct and analyze focus groups and survey research, present their findings at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference, and if interested, receive information on and an application fee waiver for our graduate programs. This will be an annual project with a new cohort of SOAR scholars chosen each Fall.
As a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), the SOAR program is consistent with our university mission to create applied research opportunities for undergraduate students. The SOAR program is seeking applications from Sociology students who meet the eligibility requirements. Historically underserved and underrepresented, first-generation students, low-income students, and students with experiences with the foster system are encouraged to apply.
