Dr. Audwin AndersonAndersonAudwinAssociate Professor Emeritus
Dr. Audwin Anderson received his PhD from Texas A&M in 1990. He began his academic career at the University of South Alabama and joined the Sociology Department at Texas State (then Southwest Texas State University) in 1994. He retired in the spring of 2024. For thirty years he made impressive contributions to the department and university. His research focused on social theory, race/ethnicity, and inequality. He won several teaching awards and mentored many faculty and countless students. His students described him as inspirational, compassionate, and brilliant. Department faculty often sought out his wise counsel and joyful laughter. His service was extensive and included positions as the Sociology Graduate Programs Director and the Director for the Center for Diversity and Gender Studies. In the fall of 2024, he received the well-deserved distinction of Associate Professor Emeritus. Audwin loved music and had an encyclopedic knowledge of jazz and blues. He was also passionate about politics and sports (particularly baseball and his Atlanta Braves). He was beloved and respected by many and will be greatly missed.
